Caleb Williams Set to Debut as Chicago Bear Quarterback in Preseason Opener

Caleb Williams, the first overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, will make his debut as the Chicago Bears' starting quarterback this weekend in a preseason game against the Buffalo Bills. Williams will join a select group of starting quarterbacks who will see action in Week 1 of the preseason, including star Bills signal-caller Josh Allen.

Caleb Williams, the highly anticipated rookie quarterback who was selected first overall by the Chicago Bears in the 2023 NFL Draft, will take his first competitive snap as a Bears player this weekend.

Williams, who has generated significant hype since his collegiate days at the University of Southern California, will start Saturday's preseason opener against the Buffalo Bills, according to Bears head coach Matt Eberflus.

Eberflus stated that he wants to see "a good flow and rhythm" from his team, particularly from Williams, who skipped the Hall of Fame game last week in Canton, Ohio.

Williams will face off against Josh Allen, the Bills' star quarterback, who will also start and play "about a quarter" along with the rest of Buffalo's starters, as confirmed by Bills coach Sean McDermott.

Williams and Allen are among the few starting NFL quarterbacks who will see action in Week 1 of the preseason, with Williams sitting out the preseason kickoff Hall of Fame game last week.

While some teams, like the Los Angeles Rams, have opted not to play their first-stringers throughout the preseason, several others, including the Bears and Bills, will field multiple starters, including their quarterbacks, this week.

Other projected NFL starting quarterbacks who are reportedly set to play in Week 1 of the 2024 preseason include Patrick Mahomes, Trevor Lawrence, Joe Burrow, Jordan Love, C.J. Stroud, and Jayden Daniels.

The preseason provides an opportunity for these quarterbacks to gain valuable in-game experience, build chemistry with their teammates, and prepare for the regular season.

Williams' debut as the Bears' starting quarterback is highly anticipated by both fans and analysts. The former USC Trojan has impressed in training camp and is considered one of the most promising young quarterbacks in the NFL.

If Williams delivers a strong performance against the Bills, it will only further fuel the excitement surrounding his arrival in Chicago.

The Bears have high hopes for Williams and believe he has the potential to become a franchise-changing player. The preseason opener will offer a glimpse into his future and provide fans with a taste of what's to come for the Chicago Bears.
