Prime Minister Justin Trudeau delivers a speech on Canada Day, highlighting the sacrifices made by Canadians throughout history in the pursuit of freedom.
"My fellow Canadians,
As we gather on this, our 154th Canada Day, let us take a moment to reflect on the sacrifices that have been made to secure the freedoms we enjoy today.
Canada Day: A Celebration of Freedom and Sacrifice
From the earliest days of our nation, Canadians have answered the call to serve, both at home and abroad. Whether it was fighting for our independence, defending our values, or providing aid to those in need, Canadians have always been there when the world needed us.
On this Canada Day, we remember the brave men and women who fought and died in the First and Second World Wars. We honor their memory and the sacrifices they made to ensure our freedom and security.
We also remember the Canadians who have served in peacekeeping missions around the world, bringing stability and hope to conflict-torn regions. And we recognize the sacrifices made by our first responders, who put their lives on the line every day to protect us.
The story of Canada is a story of sacrifice. When Canadian soldiers stormed the beaches of Normandy, they knew they were risking their lives. But freedom – even for those across the ocean – was worth fighting for.
Today, we are facing new challenges. Climate change, global inequality, and terrorism threaten our world. But just as Canadians have always done, we will face these challenges head-on.
We will continue to fight for freedom, justice, and equality. We will continue to be a beacon of hope for those who are struggling. And we will continue to make sacrifices to ensure that future generations can enjoy the same freedoms that we have today.
Canada is a great nation because of the people who have served and sacrificed for it. On this Canada Day, let us celebrate their courage and determination. Let us recommit ourselves to the values that have made Canada a beacon of hope and freedom in the world.
Happy Canada Day, everyone!"
