Supermodel and actress Cara Delevingne opens up about her struggles with addiction, revealing that she began drinking at the tender age of 8. Now approaching two years of sobriety, Delevingne reflects on the transformative journey that has led her back to strength and empowerment.

In a revealing interview with The Sunday Times, Cara Delevingne has shed light on her battles with addiction and the empowering path towards recovery. The supermodel and actress candidly recalled an incident that occurred when she was just 8 years old, where she consumed alcohol at a wedding.

Years later, Delevingne embarked on a modeling career with Vogue Italia, a steppingstone that led her down a path of excessive partying. She admits to using drugs and alcohol as a means of escape, but realized their detrimental impact on her well-being.

"I used to think drugs and alcohol helped me cope… but they didn’t, they kept me sad and super depressed," she confided. "I feel like I’ve got my power back and I’m not being controlled by other things."

Delevingne's family history of addiction has played a significant role in her own struggles. Her mother, Pandora, has also been open about her battles, leading Cara to reflect on the similarities between them.

"I do think the older I get, the more I see how similar me and my mother are," she said. "She has managed to survive through so much. She’s whip smart. I think there are really beautiful things about my mother and really sad things too. It makes the whole situation complex."

The realization of her own addiction, coupled with a devastating fire that destroyed her Los Angeles home in March, prompted Cara to seek help.

"It sucks, but everyone was safe and, like anything, if I’d not been sober I would still be reeling over that. It would still affect me really deeply," she said about the fire. "Of course it affected me, it’s super sad. It never won’t be. But I don’t use it as a tool to keep myself sad."

Today, Delevingne approaches two years of sobriety with a newfound sense of purpose and empowerment. Her journey has taught her the importance of self-control and the strength that comes from recovery.

"I have a different relationship with life now," she said. "I’m not dependent on anything or anyone else anymore."

Cara Delevingne's story serves as an inspiration to others struggling with addiction. It is a testament to the transformative power of recovery, the strength in facing one's own demons, and the beauty that can emerge from adversity.
