The iconic singer faced a surprising consequence after wearing a heavy headpiece during her wedding ceremony, leaving her with a unique and unforgettable memory.
Celine Dion, the beloved and multi-Grammy Award-winning singer, recently shared a fascinating anecdote about her wedding day. During an interview with Vogue, Dion recalled how the opulent seven-pound headpiece she wore, adorned with over 2,000 Swarovski crystals, led to an unexpected medical issue.
"I had an immediate facelift," Dion revealed in the video. Her initial reaction to the headpiece's weight was optimistic: "When you're so happy, there is no weight, there's no problem, there's no pain." However, the pressure proved too much to bear.
As the evening progressed, Dion felt the weight of the tiara on her head. Upon removing it, she discovered a cut and a bump on her forehead, causing her to go cross-eyed. "I'm like, 'Okay, let's go to the doctor,'" she explained. The subsequent diagnosis required three weeks of antibiotics.
Despite the post-wedding medical issue, Dion looks back on her wedding day with immense fondness. She believes that the love she felt for her husband, René Angélil, made the day perfect. "This is a moment that will be with me for the rest of my life," she said. "The dress couldn't have been big enough. I could've had three times the size on my head."
Dion and Angélil were married for 22 years before his untimely death in 2016 from throat cancer. Their relationship was marked by love and support, and Dion continues to honor Angélil's memory.
The couple's first encounter occurred when Dion was 12 and Angélil was 38, when he produced her first single. They began dating seven years later and were married in 1994. During their time together, they welcomed three children: René-Charles, now 23, and 13-year-old twins Eddy and Nelson.
On the fifth anniversary of Angélil's passing in 2021, Dion shared a heartfelt tribute on Instagram. "René, it's been 5 years already… There's not one day that we don't think about you," she wrote. "We're reaching out to you now more than ever, to guide us, protect us, and continue to watch over us."
Celine Dion's wedding day headpiece mishap serves as a reminder that even in the most joyous moments, unexpected challenges can arise. However, the love and memories shared on that special day can often outweigh any imperfections.
