Justin Herbert injured his ankle again in the Chargers' matchup against the Steelers, forcing him out of the game and handing Pittsburgh their third win of the season.
The Los Angeles Chargers' impressive start to the season was halted by the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday after an injury to quarterback Justin Herbert sidelined him midway through the game. The Chargers fell 20-10, marking their first loss of the season and Pittsburgh's first win.
Herbert, who was dealing with a high ankle sprain following a Week 2 game against the Carolina Panthers, had been questionable to play all week. After being cleared to start, Herbert looked sharp until he was sacked by the Steelers' Elandon Roberts. The injury forced him to leave the field and seek medical attention.

With Herbert out, backup quarterback Taylor Heinecke took over under center. Before the injury, Herbert had thrown for 125 yards and a touchdown pass to Quentin Johnston.
The Steelers, led by quarterback Justin Fields, capitalized on Herbert's absence. Fields led a 73-yard drive that resulted in a Chris Boswell field goal, giving Pittsburgh the lead.

Pittsburgh took control of the game in the fourth quarter when Fields found Calvin Austin for a 55-yard touchdown. The Chargers were unable to mount a comeback, punting on their next drive. The Steelers ran out the clock with Fields kneeling the ball.
Fields had a solid performance, completing 25 of 32 passes for 245 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. He also added a rushing touchdown in the first half. Najee Harris led the Steelers' ground game with 70 rushing yards on 18 carries.

In addition to Herbert, the Chargers also lost tackles Rashawn Slater and rookie Joe Alt to injuries during the game. The Chargers' rushing attack, which had been dominant in their first two games, was held to just 61 yards against the Steelers.
The Steelers' victory improved their record to 3-0, while the Chargers dropped to 2-1. The Chargers will look to bounce back next week when they face the Jacksonville Jaguars, while the Steelers will host the New York Jets.
