NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley has called on President Biden to step aside before the 2024 presidential election, citing concerns about his mental fitness and the need for a younger generation to lead the country.
NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley has joined the chorus of voices calling on President Biden to "pass the torch" ahead of the 2024 presidential election. In a recent appearance on CNBC, Barkley expressed concerns about Biden's mental acuity and the need for a younger generation to take the reins of power.
"I just feel sadness," Barkley said. "You got the greatest country in the world — and I have nothing but admiration and respect for President Biden, but it's time for him to pass the torch to a younger generation. He’s been a great person, a great man — this ain't something I’m saying now, I’ve said it like a year ago. It’s time for him to pass the torch."

Barkley's call for Biden to step aside is not a signal of support for former President Trump. "Listen, President Trump — I would never vote for somebody who had that mentality. You should always have respect for whoever’s in the presidency. You know, I get mad at these sports teams — some of these bozos won’t visit the White House because it's a Democrat or Republican in there. That is stupid. It’s the president of the United States. We should always admire that office, no matter who’s in there," said Barkley.
Barkley's concerns about Biden's mental fitness echo those of many Americans, who have expressed worry about the president's cognitive abilities. These concerns were amplified during a recent press conference with reporters, when Biden made a handful of gaffes, including appearing to confuse Vice President Kamala Harris with former President Trump.

Barkley's call for Biden to step aside has sparked a debate about the president's future plans. Some believe that Biden should heed Barkley's advice and make way for a younger generation, while others argue that he should stay in office and fulfill his term.
Ultimately, the decision of whether or not to run for re-election is up to Biden. However, Barkley's comments have certainly added fuel to the fire and sparked a national conversation about the future of American leadership.

It remains to be seen whether Biden will take Barkley's advice and retire from politics after his current term. However, the NBA legend's comments have certainly put the issue of presidential succession back in the spotlight.
In addition to his comments about Biden, Barkley also spoke about the current climate of politics in America. He expressed his disappointment with the level of vitriol and division in the country.

"I just don't understand why we can't all just get along," Barkley said. "We're all Americans, and we should all be working together to make this country better. I don't care if you're a Democrat, a Republican, or an Independent. We should all be on the same team."
Barkley's comments about the need for unity and cooperation are a welcome reminder that we are all Americans, regardless of our political beliefs. We should all be working together to make this country better, and we should all be respectful of the office of the presidency, no matter who holds it.
