Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Marquise Brown was hospitalized Saturday after suffering a sternoclavicular joint dislocation in the team's preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Marquise Brown was hospitalized on Saturday evening following an injury in an NFL preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The 27-year-old wideout, whom the Chiefs acquired in an offseason trade with the Arizona Cardinals, suffered a sternoclavicular joint dislocation on the first play of the game.
The injury occurred when Brown landed awkwardly on his left shoulder after making an 11-yard reception. He was immediately taken to the hospital for further evaluation.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid provided an update on Brown's condition following the game, expressing uncertainty about his availability for the season opener against the Baltimore Ravens.
"I think he'll miss some time," Reid said. "We'll just see where he's at. He's kind of going through it right now, and we'll know more later on."

Brown's injury is a significant blow to the Chiefs' offense, which is already dealing with the departure of wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling to the Buffalo Bills. Brown was expected to play a key role alongside star receiver Tyreek Hill, who was traded to the Miami Dolphins during the offseason.
The Chiefs signed Brown to a one-year, $7 million contract in March after two seasons with the Cardinals. He had 51 catches for 574 yards and seven touchdowns during the 2023 season.

Brown's absence will likely open the door for other wide receivers on the Chiefs roster to step up. Kansas City selected wide receiver Xavier Worthy in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft, and several other receivers, including Skyy Moore and Justin Watson, will be competing for playing time.
The Chiefs have struggled to generate consistent offense during the preseason, and Brown's injury will only add to the uncertainty surrounding the unit. Kansas City finished the 2023 season with an 11-6 record, ranking ninth in yards gained and 15th in points scored.
The injury to Brown also raises questions about the team's long-term plans at wide receiver. The Chiefs have several young receivers on the roster, but none have proven to be reliable targets for quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
The Chiefs will need to find a way to replace Brown's production if they want to compete for a Super Bowl title in 2024. The team has a history of developing talented wide receivers, but it remains to be seen who will step up in Brown's absence.
