Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy has become the latest victim of a car theft, adding to a tumultuous week for the team following kicker Harrison Butker's controversial speech.
A wild week for the Kansas City Chiefs has taken an even more chaotic turn with the news that rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy has had his car stolen from his apartment complex. Worthy contacted Kansas City police at 11:48 p.m. on May 13, reporting that his vehicle had been taken from the garage of the complex.
Police confirmed to Fox News Digital that the vehicle was "parked, secured, and intact" before being stolen. Worthy had discovered the vehicle was missing just before 7 that morning. Pro Football Talk reported that the car was stolen by criminals who "knew exactly what they were doing."
The incident follows Harrison Butker's commencement speech at Benedictine University over the weekend, where the kicker came under fire for comments related to his faith. The Chiefs have not yet commented on the car theft.
The Chiefs traded up to select Worthy with the 28th overall pick in the NFL Draft, hoping to bolster their passing game after struggling to find consistent threats outside of tight end Travis Kelce. Worthy's blazing speed, as evidenced by his record-breaking 4.21 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine, is expected to be a major asset on the Chiefs' offense.
However, Worthy's role on the team may increase sooner than anticipated, as sophomore wide receiver Rashee Rice is facing a potential suspension in connection to a hit-and-run earlier this year. Rice has emerged as a reliable target, particularly in the second half of the Chiefs' Super Bowl-winning season.
In his final season at Texas, Worthy recorded career highs with 75 receptions for 1,014 yards. The Longhorns won the Big 12, but fell short to Washington in the Sugar Bowl. Worthy's impressive performance earned him numerous conference honors, including Big 12 first-team selection in 2021 and 2023.
The car theft and the ongoing controversy surrounding Butker's comments have added to the turmoil surrounding the Chiefs, who are hoping to maintain their success after back-to-back Super Bowl victories. The team is counting on Worthy to be a major contributor, both on and off the field, as they navigate a tumultuous period.
