China's Foreign Ministry has expressed strong disapproval of both the inauguration of Taiwan's new president and a standoff between Philippine and Chinese vessels in the South China Sea.

At a press briefing in Beijing, ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin asserted China's sovereignty over Taiwan and the disputed South China Sea region. Wang denounced Taiwan's presidential inauguration as a "serious violation" of the "one China" principle and criticized the U.S. for congratulating the new president.

He also criticized former U.S. Rep. Mike Gallagher for his recent visit to Taiwan and announced sanctions against him, including a ban on entering China and the freezing of his assets there. Gallagher has been accused by the Chinese government of "interfering in China's internal affairs."

In response to Lai Ching-te's inaugural speech, in which he called for peace with China, Wang stated that China "will never tolerate or condone any form of 'Taiwan independence' separatist activities." He also emphasized China's determination to eventually reunify with Taiwan.

Meanwhile, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce announced sanctions against Boeing and two other defense companies for arms sales to Taiwan. The sanctions include suspending contracts and prohibiting business activities with the companies.

Lai, who succeeded Tsai Ing-wen as Taiwan's president, expressed a desire for peace with China but also vowed to defend the island's autonomy. He urged China to cease its military threats and intimidation and engage in dialogue instead of confrontation.

The Chinese office in charge of Taiwan affairs criticized Lai's speech as promoting "separatism" and relying on foreign forces to seek independence. Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the office, reaffirmed China's commitment to preventing "Taiwan independence" and achieving reunification.

The diplomatic tensions between China and the U.S. over Taiwan have intensified in recent years, as China has increased its military presence in the region and the U.S. has expanded its support for Taiwan.

The standoff in the South China Sea between Philippine and Chinese vessels has also raised concerns about the potential for conflict in the disputed waters. The Philippines has accused China of harassing its ships within its exclusive economic zone, while China claims sovereignty over the area.

The international community is closely monitoring these developments and urging restraint from all parties involved.
