According to the Palm Beach Post, 38-year-old Zijie Li of El Monte, California, was taken into custody after allegedly attempting to enter Mar-a-Lago on multiple occasions. Li claimed to possess documents linking his home country's government to the July 13 assassination attempt on Trump during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

The suspect's actions prompted an investigation by the Palm Beach Police Department and the Secret Service, which resulted in Li's arrest on August 1. The Palm Beach Post reported that Li's first attempt to reach Mar-a-Lago was on July 19, when he allegedly drove up to the estate's main entrance and told Secret Service agents that he had documents showing China's involvement in the attempted assassination.

However, Trump was not home at the time, and agents informed Li that he was trespassing and was not allowed on the property. The Palm Beach Police Department subsequently issued Li a written warning, ordering him not to return to Mar-a-Lago.

Undeterred, Li made several subsequent attempts to enter the property, resulting in his eventual arrest. He is currently behind bars and faces charges of trespassing, resisting arrest without violence, and violating the written warning issued by the police.

The incident highlights the heightened security measures surrounding Trump and his properties following the assassination attempt. The Secret Service has increased its presence around Mar-a-Lago and other Trump properties, and has also closed South Ocean Boulevard next to the estate.

The Palm Beach Post reported that Li's arrest is not an isolated incident. In 2019, a 32-year-old Chinese woman was arrested after the Secret Service accused her of lying to gain entry to the club and then claiming she wanted to talk to Trump about economic relations between China and the United States.

Court records indicate that Li used a Mandarin translator during his court appearance and that the judge imposed a no-contact order prohibiting him from contacting Trump, anyone associated with him or his campaign, or his Mar-a-Lago property. Li's next court appearance is scheduled for Monday, August 5.
