CNN senior political commentator Van Jones raised concerns about the impact of pro-Trump model Amber Rose's speech at the Republican National Convention, while CNN media reporter Oliver Darcy criticized fellow commentator Scott Jennings for alleged "misleading commentary."
Amidst the ongoing political divide, a heated internal feud at CNN has erupted, pitting two senior commentators against each other. Van Jones, a prominent Democrat, has expressed alarm over the potential consequences of a pro-Trump speech delivered at the Republican National Convention, while Oliver Darcy, a media reporter, has lashed out at a pro-Trump colleague for alleged "misleading commentary."
Jones, a CNN senior political commentator, warned that TV personality and model Amber Rose's pro-Trump speech at the convention was the "most dangerous speech" for the Democratic Party. He argued that Rose's message could resonate with disenchanted voters who might be swayed by her personal experiences and celebrity status.

Meanwhile, Darcy, CNN's media reporter, has taken aim at Scott Jennings, one of the network's few defenders of former President Trump. Darcy accused Jennings, a CNN contributor, of offering "misleading commentary" on the network without providing any evidence to support his claim. Darcy's criticism was echoed by former Clinton press secretary Joe Lockhart, who called for Jennings' removal.
Darcy's accusations against Jennings stem from a clip of the latter suggesting that Trump's "bloodbaths" remark was taken out of context. In the clip shared by Lockhart, Jennings defends Trump's statement, arguing that it was not a threat of violence but rather a warning about the potential economic consequences of a Trump loss.

However, Darcy's attack on Jennings has drawn criticism from conservative media outlets and commentators. The Federalist editor-in-chief, Mollie Hemingway, interpreted Darcy's newsletter as a call for Jennings' job, accusing him of attempting to silence a "rare voice of reason" on the network.
Jennings has not immediately responded to requests for comment, while Darcy and a CNN spokesperson have declined to provide specific examples of the alleged "misleading commentary" by Jennings.

This internal conflict at CNN is a reflection of the deep political divide that has permeated American society and the media landscape. The accusations and counter-accusations made by CNN commentators further underscore the polarized environment in which journalism is being practiced today.
Darcy's criticism of his own employer, CNN, is not new. Last year, he was among the most outspoken critics of the network's decision to air a Trump town hall event, calling it a "spectacle of lies." He has also publicly criticized former CNN CEO Chris Licht and the current state of affairs within the organization.
CNN's corporate parent, Warner Bros. Discovery, fired Licht weeks after Darcy highlighted the backlash to the Trump town hall. Darcy took over the "Reliable Sources" newsletter in 2022 after original author Brian Stelter was fired by Licht.
The conflict between Darcy and Jennings is likely to further fuel the debate about the role of media in a polarized society. As journalists grapple with the challenges of objectivity and bias, internal conflicts within news organizations could become more common.
The outcome of this particular conflict at CNN remains to be seen, but it is clear that the battle lines have been drawn and that the stakes are high for both the network and the individuals involved.
