Attorney for Michael Cohen pushes Trump to testify, says client needs to ‘own his lying’

Michael Cohen's attorney, Lanny Davis, appeared on "America Reports" Tuesday, commenting on his client's court appearance and addressing concerns about Cohen's credibility. Davis acknowledged that Cohen's cross-examination will not be easy but defended him against accusations of perjury.

Cohen, a former Trump lawyer, testified in the New York financial fraud trial where he is a star witness for Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. Bragg alleges that Trump falsified business records related to a $130,000 payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels.

Davis urged Cohen to be honest about his past actions and to "own his lying" and "sins" while answering questions. He also defended Cohen against criticism from House Speaker Mike Johnson, who accused him of having a history of perjury.

"It's pretty rich for the speaker to talk about lying when he's the supporter of one of the biggest lies of all, which is not accepting the defeat by Donald Trump," Davis said.

Davis acknowledged that Cohen can be quick to anger under questioning, but praised him for facing the challenge of testifying before Congress and the Attorney General. He urged Trump to follow Cohen's example and testify in the trial.

"Now, where is Mr. Trump? He promised he would testify," Davis said.

Davis believes that if Cohen answers the questions calmly and directly, the jury will find him credible. He also argued that Trump should do the same and tell the truth.

Cohen's testimony is considered crucial in the prosecution's case against Trump. Bragg alleges that Trump inflated the value of his assets to obtain favorable loans and deflated their value to reduce his tax liability.

Trump has pleaded not guilty to all charges and maintains his innocence. He has denied any wrongdoing and called the case a "witch hunt."

The trial is expected to continue for several weeks, with Cohen being a key witness for the prosecution. The outcome of the case could have significant implications for Trump, both politically and legally.
