A recent Fox News poll reveals that 59% of Americans oppose college campus protests against Israel. Jewish students from across the US share their harrowing experiences of antisemitism and call for immediate action.
A recent Fox News poll has found that 59% of Americans oppose college campus protests against Israel. The poll also revealed that a majority of Americans support Israel's right to defend itself against Hamas terrorism.
The poll is consistent with other recent surveys that have shown a decline in support for the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement, which seeks to isolate and financially pressure Israel.
Amidst these campus protests, Jewish students from across the US have spoken out about their experiences of antisemitism.
Omer Nativ, a student at Rutgers University, has witnessed death threats against Jewish students and the disruption of final exams due to anti-Israel protests.
Joshua Shain, a student at Columbia University, has faced verbal assaults, insults, and threats of violence for wearing a Star of David.
Jack Landstein, a student at the University of Michigan, has been cursed and accused of supporting a genocidal state. He has also witnessed antisemitic chants that create a hostile environment for Jewish students.
To address this issue, a group of American Jewish students have arrived in Israel to meet with Israeli officials, hear firsthand testimonies from survivors of Hamas attacks, and visit communities affected by terrorism.
The trip, called "Take Action for Israel," aims to provide students with the tools and knowledge they need to combat anti-Jewish and anti-Israel activities on their campuses.
The students are calling for college administrations to take immediate action to address antisemitism and to enforce campus rules. They are also urging Jewish and non-Jewish students alike to stand up against hate speech and violence.
"We need to come together...and say to the voices that deny that these atrocities occurred...They happened. I saw the evidence with my own eyes," said Shain.
Landstein hopes to use his experiences in Israel to "counter antisemitism and hate on campus" at the University of Michigan.
The recent Fox News poll and the experiences of Jewish students highlight the urgent need to address antisemitism and anti-Israel bias on college campuses. By taking action to enforce campus rules and support Jewish students, universities can create a more inclusive and welcoming environment for all.
