In a surprising revelation, Ashley Madison, an online dating service tailored towards married individuals seeking extramarital affairs, has released a report identifying Columbus, Ohio, as the city with the highest number of signups per capita for non-monogamous relationships in the United States.

"We saw that Columbus, Ohio, had the No. 1 most signups per capita for any city across America, which was fascinating because they weren’t even in the top 20 of our list last year," Paul Keable, Ashley Madison's chief strategy officer, told Fox News Digital.

This unexpected surge in non-monogamous activity in Columbus has raised eyebrows, especially considering its absence from last year's top 20 list. Keable attributes this sudden rise to an unknown factor within the city's social dynamics.

Ohio's strong presence on the list continues with Cincinnati and Cleveland ranking as the seventh and 13th most active cities for non-monogamy. This has led Keable to speculate that the Midwest may be a hub for such relationships.

"Something is going on in the Midwest," he stated.

Keable's analysis suggests that the data serves as a guide for "would-be adulterers and cheaters" seeking to identify areas with high levels of non-monogamous activity. According to him, the findings indicate that infidelity is a prevalent issue regardless of income, industry, or location.

"We have red states and blue states and purple states represented really, really well. We have tourist destinations -- Sin City, Las Vegas drops in at No.4, which probably isn't too surprising," Keable said. "But then when you have Buffalo, Baton Rouge, Tucson, Arizona, what does that really tell you about America? It tells me that infidelity is ubiquitous against your income, against your industry and your location."

Richmond, Virginia, which landed at No. 6, stood out to Keable due to its unexpected inclusion. He points to its proximity to Washington, DC, and the possibility that political involvement within the city may contribute to the increased prevalence of extramarital affairs.

"Given that a lot of people who reside there probably work in Washington, DC, or work within the political environment there. That is an industry in a space, in a type of city that we often see high membership in," he explained.

Miami, which ranked first in the previous edition, has slipped to second place. However, Florida remains well-represented on the list with Orlando and Tampa also making appearances in the top 20.

Keable emphasizes the importance of using a per capita basis when identifying the most non-monogamous cities. This approach provides a more accurate representation of an area's propensity for infidelity.

"It's a better representation of that city's desire and leanings towards infidelity," Keable said.

While large metropolitan areas such as New York City, Los Angeles, and Houston may have the highest number of Ashley Madison signups, their population size influences their ranking. "When you balance it out against the size of the actual population, that's a truer indication of whether or not that city has adulterous leanings," Keable concluded.
