The Washington Commanders have parted ways with kicker Brandon McManus following sexual assault accusations made against him by two flight attendants during his time with the Jacksonville Jaguars last season.

Commanders Release McManus Amid Sexual Assault Allegations

The Washington Commanders have taken swift action in releasing veteran kicker Brandon McManus after he was hit with sexual assault allegations dating back to his tenure with the Jacksonville Jaguars last season. McManus, who was poised to be the Commanders' starting kicker this season, has denied the claims vehemently, labeling them as "absolutely fictitious and demonstrably false."

Two flight attendants filed a lawsuit against McManus last month, alleging that he engaged in inappropriate behavior during a flight to London while he was still a member of the Jaguars. According to the lawsuit, McManus allegedly rubbed and grinded against the women, threw $100 bills at them to coerce them into dancing inappropriately, and attempted to kiss one of them.

The lawsuit also alleged that McManus' actions created an unsafe environment for the flight attendants, accusing the Jaguars of failing to supervise him adequately. The Jaguars have since released a statement acknowledging the complaint and expressing their commitment to maintaining an organization with "the highest character and class."

The Commanders, upon learning of the lawsuit, immediately took action to distance themselves from McManus. In a statement, the team emphasized its commitment to investigating allegations of this nature seriously. They added that they had contacted the League Office and McManus' representation to gather more information before issuing further comment.

McManus' attorney, Brett R. Gallaway, has strongly refuted the allegations, characterizing them as an extortion attempt. Gallaway stated that McManus intends to vigorously defend his rights and reputation, demonstrating the baselessness of the claims.

McManus, who boasts Super Bowl pedigree from his time with the Denver Broncos, joined the Jaguars in 2023, where he converted 30 out of 37 field goal attempts. His departure from the Commanders leaves a void at the kicking position, which the team will need to address as voluntary practice sessions resume this Monday.

The allegations against McManus have cast a shadow over his career and tarnished the image of the Commanders organization. The team's handling of the situation will be closely scrutinized as it navigates the delicate balance between respecting the rights of the alleged victims and ensuring fairness for McManus.

The NFL has a zero-tolerance policy for sexual misconduct, and McManus' case is likely to draw significant attention from the league. The outcome of the lawsuit and the league's investigation will have a profound impact on McManus' future in the NFL and the handling of such allegations within the league.
