Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo refuted CNBC host Joe Kernen's accusations that Vice President Kamala Harris has been dodging the press, asserting that Harris has been "crystal clear" on her values and priorities.
Vice President Kamala Harris' limited media visibility has come under scrutiny, with some commentators accusing her of evading questions and transparency. However, Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo has defended Harris' approach, highlighting her ongoing engagement with the American public and her commitment to tackling important issues.
During an interview on CNBC's "Squawk Box," host Joe Kernen questioned Harris' lack of media accessibility, stating that she had "avoided any questions" and engaged in "a masterclass in avoidance." Raimondo countered this assertion, emphasizing that Harris has been actively communicating with voters and outlining her policy positions.

Raimondo acknowledged that Harris had only granted one formal interview since taking office, but explained that this limited exposure was due to the demanding nature of the presidential campaign. She emphasized Harris' extensive travel and engagement with voters across the country, arguing that this direct interaction was more valuable than traditional press conferences.
"This is a presidential election like no other," Raimondo said. "She only has a few weeks to do everything. And she's spending her time talking to Americans. She has a punishing schedule out and about everywhere being with the people who she wants to elect her."

The commerce secretary also pointed to the upcoming debate between Harris and former President Donald Trump as an opportunity for the American people to engage with the candidates and evaluate their positions. She expressed confidence that Harris would demonstrate her vision, policy stances, and ability to lead the nation.
"I see in her somebody who has a vision, who's been really clear about her desire to help businesses and small businesses. She talks about being pro-business, pro-worker at the same time," Raimondo said. "And I just see in Donald Trump somebody who governs with great unpredictability."

Meanwhile, critics have highlighted the disparity in media exposure between Harris and her opponents. Former President Trump has participated in numerous interviews since Harris' presidential announcement, while Harris has maintained a lower profile.
However, Raimondo dismissed this comparison, arguing that Harris' approach allowed her to engage more directly with voters and avoid the distractions of constant media engagements. She praised Harris' ability to articulate her message and connect with the American people.
"She's spending her time talking to Americans," Raimondo reiterated. "And that's what's important in an election like this."
The Harris-Walz campaign has also taken steps to expand Harris' media presence. In addition to the CNN interview, Harris has participated in radio interviews and, reportedly, has scheduled additional media appearances in the coming days.
As the presidential campaign heats up, both Harris and Trump will likely face increased scrutiny over their media accessibility and engagement. The upcoming debate will provide a crucial opportunity for Harris to address concerns about her lack of press conferences and offer her perspectives on the issues facing the nation.
