Former Packers executive Andrew Brandt expresses his astonishment at the Cowboys' lack of offseason moves, suggesting they may be heading into a "lame-duck year" with Dak Prescott still unsigned.

Former Green Bay Packers executive Andrew Brandt has expressed his surprise at the Dallas Cowboys' lack of offseason decisions, suggesting that the team may be entering a "lame-duck year" with Dak Prescott remaining unsigned.

Brandt, who served as the Packers' vice president from 1999 to 2008, appeared on OutKick's "Hot Mic" on Monday and questioned why the Cowboys had yet to re-sign Prescott, which would free up cap space for offers to other key players.

"They cannot do anything," Brandt said of the Cowboys' options. "Play it out, maybe franchise next year or maybe pay him through the roof. Let him go, where he'll make the biggest contract ever in free agency, because players like him never get to free agency, or try to do something now."

Brandt believes the Cowboys will "let it ride" with Prescott and is stunned that the team didn't part ways with head coach Mike McCarthy after their divisional round loss to the Packers.

"I've been on record saying I think they're going to let it ride with Dak Prescott," Brandt said. "Because, listen, I was at that game. I'm still a Packer fan. The Packers rolled them off the field in the playoffs. Everyone thought Mike McCarthy, whom I hired 15 years ago at Green Bay, would be gone. He's not gone. He's riding it out on one year."

Brandt's observation is supported by the Cowboys' roster situation. Prescott, Lamb, Parsons, DeMarcus Lawrence, Zack Martin, and Osa Odighizuwa may all become free agents after the 2024 season.

The lack of offseason moves could indicate a potential rebuild if no significant changes are made before the preseason. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones faces a crucial offseason in determining the team's future direction.

While Prescott's contract remains a priority, the Cowboys also need to address the expiring contracts of several key players. Lamb, Parsons, and Lawrence are all essential to the team's success, and re-signing them will be crucial for long-term stability.

However, if the Cowboys fail to sign Prescott or other key players, they may face a significant roster turnover in 2024. This could lead to a significant rebuilding process and a potential departure from their current competitive state.

The 2024 season could be a significant turning point for the Cowboys. If they can re-sign Prescott and retain their core players, they will remain a competitive force. However, if they fail to make significant moves, they may face a substantial rebuild and a potential decline in their on-field performance.
