Former Obama adviser David Axelrod has dismissed concerns from top Democrats about President Biden's electability, stating that it is not the job of the Democratic Party to decide whether or not Biden will run.

Axelrod made the comments on Friday's installment of "Real Time" with Bill Maher. During the show, Maher outlined the concerns of some Democrats behind the scenes, particularly in light of a recent Politico report.

He pointed to Biden's recent decision to debate former President Donald Trump and suggested it was a sign of weakness. However, Axelrod argued that Biden is the Democratic nominee and that he will run for reelection.

"This is not 1968 where the convention is gonna decide," Axelrod explained. "We changed the rules. Voters nominate a candidate. They've nominated Joe Biden, and he's not going anywhere."

Axelrod emphasized that the Democratic Party must focus on defeating Trump in the election, rather than entertaining the possibility of replacing Biden.

"There's no generation of elders who are gonna go to the White House and tell him that he can't run," Axelrod said. "He is going to run, and one of the reasons they want an early debate, I'm sure, is to focus people on this: this is the choice! It's Trump and Biden."

His comments come after Maher previously pushed to remove Biden from the ticket, citing concerns about his mental acuity and ability to win the election. However, Axelrod dismissed these concerns, stating that it is not the job of the Democratic Party to decide on Biden's candidacy.

"The question is whether at this age you should have run, but he did run," Axelrod said. "And right now he is the nominee of the Democratic Party."

Axelrod's comments highlight the ongoing debate within the Democratic Party about Biden's electability. While some Democrats remain confident in Biden's ability to defeat Trump, others are concerned that his age and perceived weaknesses will hinder his chances of winning reelection.
