David Ortiz Revels in Yankees' All-Star Break Heartbreak

Former Red Sox slugger and current FOX Sports analyst David Ortiz couldn't contain his glee as he witnessed the New York Yankees' disastrous loss to the Baltimore Orioles in their final game before the All-Star break.

In a moment of unbridled schadenfreude, David Ortiz couldn't help but savor the New York Yankees' embarrassing 6-5 defeat to the Baltimore Orioles in the bottom of the ninth inning. The former Red Sox slugger, now a FOX Sports analyst, chortled with glee as he relived the Yankees' comedic collapse alongside Orioles stars Adley Rutschman and Gunnar Henderson at Monday's All-Star media availability.

"When I watch the Yankees lose, nothing makes me more happy than that," Ortiz declared with a grin, his laughter echoing through the room. "You guys coming from behind and whoop them."

Ortiz's mirth was particularly palpable as he watched a replay of the ill-fated play that sealed the Yankees' fate. With two outs and the bases loaded, a routine grounder to Anthony Volpe seemed like a surefire out. However, Volpe's errant field allowed Cedric Mullins to step up to the plate. Mullins sent a seemingly harmless fly ball towards Yankees left fielder Alex Verdugo, but Verdugo's miscue turned the routine out into a game-winning hit.

"Watch this, bloop!" Ortiz exclaimed with a smile, his voice filled with incredulity. "I mean wow, that made me want to go out for a dinner. A nice dinner, a nice steak!"

Ortiz's glee was tempered somewhat by his newfound friendship with Yankees outfielder Juan Soto, with whom he shares an apartment building in New York. Ortiz heaped praise on Soto's mother's culinary skills, exclaiming, "All the time!" when Soto claimed his mom was "always cooking."

However, if Ortiz could have his way, he would savor the Yankees' loss as an appetizer, followed by a main course of mama Soto's home cooking. "I mean, it's the best of both worlds, right?" Ortiz said with a mischievous grin.

The Yankees' latest setback leaves them a game behind the Orioles in the American League East at the break. Ortiz, undoubtedly basking in their misfortune, wished them a "happy" vacation.

"I hope they enjoy their break," Ortiz said with a wink. "They're going to need it."

As the Yankees sulk during the All-Star break, Ortiz will revel in their misery, knowing that his longtime rivals have given him plenty of fodder for his endless supply of jokes.
