Democratic Congressman Don Davis of North Carolina is facing re-election challenges centered around the economic policies of President Biden and their impact on his constituents. His Republican opponent, Laurie Buckhout, has accused Davis of being "beholden" to Biden and ignoring the concerns of his constituents, particularly in the face of rising inflation.

Davis has strongly denied these accusations, emphasizing his commitment to fighting for the welfare of the families in his district. He points to his record of securing community project funds and his efforts to address issues such as inflation, healthcare disparities, and broadband access.

"I'm only beholden to the families of eastern North Carolina, and I think people know that about me," Davis said.

Buckhout, a former Army colonel and first-time candidate, has criticized Davis's voting record, claiming that he consistently supports Biden's agenda without considering the needs of his constituents.

"We have to admit that Davis is just Biden's, you know, surrogate on the ground," Buckhout said. "He's his agent, he's his guy. He does what Biden says. He votes with Biden."

Davis has urged voters to evaluate his record, highlighting his bipartisan credentials. He is the third-ranking member of his caucus in Congress in terms of bipartisanship.

"Anyone can take a look at my record. I mean, you're talking to the third-ranking member of our caucus in the Congress when it comes to bipartisanship," Davis said.

Davis acknowledges the concerns of his constituents regarding the rising cost of living and the challenges it poses to their ability to afford basic necessities such as housing, food, and healthcare. He has made it a priority to address these issues through his work in Congress.

"It's really costly when you put the cost of food on top of paying rent, a mortgage payment, housing. And we know that we still have great health disparities. And we have to then put some cost of medications on top of that," he said. "It begins to add up, and it places a lot of stress on families."

Davis has made numerous stops across his district to connect with constituents and hear their concerns firsthand. He understands the pain they are experiencing and is committed to working towards solutions.

"I feel the pain, you know, with the cost of just trying to make ends meet," he said.

Davis's re-election bid comes amid a redrawing of congressional district boundaries in North Carolina. The new district includes several additional counties, expanding Davis's constituency.

Davis, who has served in Congress since 2023 and previously in the North Carolina state Senate, will face off against Buckhout in the state's general election on November 5.
