Robert De Niro, a staunch Trump critic, joined a virtual dinner event hosted by the Biden campaign and warned that Trump could "destroy the world" if reelected.

"Buonasera Tutti," former New York Mayor Bill de Blasio toasted as he opened a three-hour "Paisans for Kamala" virtual dinner this week in support of Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential bid. The event featured actor Robert De Niro, who delivered a scathing critique of former President Donald Trump.

De Niro, who once expressed a wish to "punch [Trump] in the face," said he has listened to some of Trump’s supporters. "I could very well see that there is a way, with them, that's more for them than with Trump, because Trump doesn’t offer anything," the actor said. "We've seen this before in other countries and other societies... they think they can control someone like him... God forbid he becomes 'the boss,' all the people who thought they could control him, they'll find out differently."

De Niro warned that Trump poses a grave threat to the world. "He's already shown us what he can do. He's divided the country, he's alienated our allies, and he's cozying up to dictators. If he's reelected, he could destroy the world," De Niro said.

De Blasio, co-hosting the event, highlighted the significance of the Italian-American community in the Democratic Party. "We just did a little pilgrimage… [to] Little Italy in Baltimore — to the home of Nancy D’Alesandro-Pelosi; where she grew up," he said, referring to the childhood home of former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.

Other speakers at the dinner included former Rep. Tim Ryan (D-Ohio), former CIA Director Leon Panetta, and actor Steve Buscemi. All expressed their support for Harris and criticized Trump's policies.

Pelosi, who appeared at the dinner, warned that Trump's attitude toward immigrants and his isolationist tendencies pose a danger to the nation. "It is an important race because of [Trump’s attitude toward immigrants] and so many other reasons. We must not take this election for granted," she said.

Former White House communications director Anthony Scaramucci, who broke with Trump years ago, also spoke at the dinner. He pledged $5,000 to Paisans for Harris and expressed concern about the potential reelection of Trump. "Yes, I can imagine it because each of us understands the systemic danger involved with the potential reelection of Donald Trump," he said.

The Trump campaign did not respond to a request for comment.
