Colorado head coach Deion Sanders addressed a false report that he had asked the school's band not to play the fight song after a score by his son, Shedeur Sanders, and called for more accountability among reporters.
Colorado Buffaloes head coach Deion Sanders opened his press conference on Tuesday by addressing a recent report that had been circulating in the media. The report, which originated from local radio station 104.3 The Fan, claimed that Sanders had requested the school's band not to play the fight song, "Glory, Glory, Colorado," after scores by quarterback and his son, Shedeur Sanders, so that his own theme music could be played instead.
Sanders denied the report, calling it "idiotic." He said that the fight songs have always been played after Colorado touchdowns and field goals, and that they were played every time the Buffaloes scored against North Dakota State earlier this season.

"Whoever reported that I told the band not to play the fight song, that's idiotic," Sanders said. "Y'all know that. Like when you saw that, you know that was a lie. We got to start having some kind of accountability to this."
Sanders emphasized that he is grateful for journalists who take their job seriously and verify facts before reporting on them. However, he expressed concern about the spread of false narratives, which can have a negative impact on individuals and communities.

"Please know that that stuff affects people," Sanders said. "Me, you've been attacking me my whole life, so I'm good, but other people that's involved, band members, Buffs faithful, and alumni and all that. Sometimes they don't know what to believe and often times in life we believe the first thing we hear, in which we shouldn't."
Sanders called for reporters to be more responsible in their reporting and to validate information before publishing it. He said that he is not interested in getting personal with the media, but he emphasized the importance of ethical and accurate reporting.

"I just would challenge you to be more responsible with your reporting," Sanders said. "Remember, validate everything before you run with it."
Sanders concluded his press conference with a reminder to the media to be mindful of the impact their words can have. He said that his family has a large platform, but they choose not to use it to attack others.

"We weren't raised like that; we weren't brought up like that," Sanders said. "We were brought up to love thy neighbor as much as we can."
Colorado is 1-1 on the season after losing to Nebraska last week 28-10. The Buffaloes' next game is against Colorado State on Saturday.
