Democratic strategists are expressing concerns about the party's chances of winning the 2024 presidential race against former President Donald Trump, citing Biden's low polling numbers and the perception that he is not an effective campaigner.

The heated race between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump has Democratic strategists predicting defeat, according to a new report. Speaking anonymously, a Democratic operative told Politico that strategists fear being perceived as pessimistic or critical of the campaign, but privately acknowledge the challenges facing Biden.

The strategists' concerns stem from Biden's consistently low approval ratings and his struggles in key swing states. A recent Bloomberg News/Morning Consult poll found Trump leading Biden in Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin, all states that Biden won in 2020.

A Biden adviser revealed that donors are also expressing doubts about the incumbent president's campaign. "It's much easier to show donors the weaknesses of Biden's campaign," the adviser said.

Prominent strategist James Carville has been outspoken in his criticism of the party's messaging and strategy. Another strategist, Pete Giangreco, believes that the Biden campaign is not effectively framing the race against Trump.

Even in traditionally Democratic strongholds like New York City, Trump's aggressive campaigning, particularly in minority communities like the South Bronx, has Democrats worried. Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine expressed concern about the number of people in New York, including people of color, who are supporting Trump.

Former Obama advisor and CNN political analyst David Axelrod warned that Biden's insistence on defending the state of the economy is a "terrible mistake." Veteran Democratic strategist Paul Begala has raised concerns about third-party candidates like Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., and Cornel West potentially harming Biden's chances and tilting the election in Trump's favor.

Compounding the strategists' worries is the belief that Trump's populist and patriotic message resonates with younger voters. They argue that the Democrats need to develop a more compelling narrative that appeals to this demographic.

The Biden campaign has declined to comment, while the Trump campaign did not respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment. As the 2024 race intensifies, Democratic strategists face the daunting task of addressing Biden's weaknesses and crafting a strategy to overcome the formidable challenge posed by former President Trump.
