Former Hillary Clinton campaign spokesperson Karen Finney has blasted the Democratic Party for projecting fear about losing the presidential election, warning that such an attitude could become a self-fulfilling prophecy in November.

Speaking on a CNN panel, Finney said voters are picking up on this fear and are less inclined to vote for Democratic candidates. "Voters are seeing us as losers," she lamented.

Finney's comments come as new polls show President Biden trailing former President Trump in multiple states crucial for winning the presidency in November. She noted that this election cycle was already going to be a challenge for Democrats, but the party's defeatist attitude is making it even more difficult.

"One of the things, though, that I think, we're in a cycle where Democrats – it's becoming a life-fulfilling prophecy," she said, adding, "The more we talk about how afraid we are of losing instead of how we're going to win, voters are seeing us as losers."

Finney urged her party to realize that confidence is key. "I keep saying to my Democrats, you have to believe you can win to even get on the board and attempt to win," she said.

She contrasted the Democrats' attitude with that of President Biden and his campaign, who have tried to project confidence that he is still the best candidate to beat Trump. "14 million people voted for me to be the nominee of the Democratic Party, okay?" Biden told NBC's Lester Holt during a recent interview. "I listen to them."

Finney's warning echoes concerns raised by some Democratic lawmakers, including Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., who have expressed doubts about Biden's ability to beat Trump. Schiff and others have reportedly pushed the party to find a new candidate.

However, Biden and his campaign have dismissed these calls, arguing that he is the best candidate to defeat Trump. The president has pointed to his primary victory as evidence of his popularity with the Democratic base.

The latest poll numbers have bolstered fears among some Democrats that Biden is not a strong enough candidate, especially following his disastrous debate performance last month. But Finney believes that the party's defeatist attitude is even more damaging than Biden's debate performance.

If the Democrats want to win the election, Finney said, they need to stop projecting fear and start believing in themselves. "If you don't believe in yourself that you can win, voters are sort of saying, 'Well then why am I gonna – why should I vote for you?" she said.

The Democratic Party has been struggling to find a unifying message and a clear path to victory in the upcoming election. Biden's low approval ratings and the party's internal divisions have made it difficult to rally support.

Finney's warning is a reminder that the Democrats cannot afford to give up on themselves. If they want to win in November, they need to project confidence, believe in their ability to succeed, and convince voters that they are the best party to lead the country.
