Fox News chief political analyst Brit Hume has shed light on the precarious situation facing the Democratic Party as they navigate their future amidst President Biden's declining support and a party divided over his 2024 presidential bid.

Hume, speaking on "The Brian Kilmeade Show," emphasized the "insoluble" position Democrats find themselves in, with Biden's cognitive decline and waning popularity casting a shadow over their electoral prospects.

"I wouldn't want to have to be a Democratic strategist just trying to figure out what to do," Hume remarked. "They're in a terribly difficult position because their candidate is kind of a spent force."

The lack of public appearances and press conferences by President Biden has been attributed to his deteriorating cognitive abilities, according to Hume. "The reason why he wasn't doing that is he can't do it very well, if at all," Hume stated.

With a growing number of Democratic lawmakers calling for Biden to step down, the party faces the daunting task of putting on a presidential convention that showcases a candidate whose physical and mental capacity is under scrutiny.

Hume questioned the efficacy of using a teleprompter to mask Biden's cognitive decline, arguing that it would not address the underlying problem. "We get that. And he could read with some force and even with a certain angry passion and all that. But that's not going to solve the problem."

A recent AP-NORC poll underscores the concerns within the Democratic Party, with nearly two-thirds of Democrats expressing their belief that Biden should drop out of the 2024 race. Even prominent party leaders, such as California Rep. Adam Schiff, have joined the chorus calling for the president to step aside.

Schiff, in a statement to Fox News Digital, expressed his deep concern about Biden's ability to defeat Donald Trump in the upcoming election. "A second Trump presidency will undermine the very foundation of our democracy, and I have serious concerns about whether the President can defeat Donald Trump in November," Schiff asserted.

Hume acknowledged that the decision to withdraw from the race ultimately lies with President Biden. However, he expressed his conviction that "it is time for him to pass the torch."

The Democratic Party's internal divisions and the mounting pressure on President Biden to step down have created an unprecedented challenge for the party as they approach the 2024 presidential election, with the potential consequences extending to the loss of not only the presidency but also seats in Congress and governorships across the country.
