Fox News chief political analyst Brit Hume says President Biden is seen as "not in any position to serve a second term" amid growing calls for him to withdraw from the 2024 race.

Brit Hume, Fox News chief political analyst, weighed in on the escalating calls for President Biden to abandon his 2024 reelection bid amidst concerns regarding his mental fitness. Hume characterized the situation as a "state of total agony" for Democrats.

"He's now thought of in the eyes of people as being a man who is really not in any position to serve a second term, if he's even in a position to serve out this one," Hume commented on "Special Report" to guest anchor Gillian Turner. "The question is what the Democrats, who are in a state of total agony, are going to be able to do about it, if anything."

Since Biden's widely criticized performance in a recent CNN Presidential Debate, nine House Democrats have openly urged him to withdraw from the 2024 contest, according to an Associated Press tally. Senator Peter Welch of Vermont became the first Democratic senator to publicly advocate for Biden's withdrawal "for the good of the country."

Biden's scheduled press conference on Thursday at the 75th Anniversary NATO summit in Washington, D.C., is anticipated to provide an opportunity to address concerns about his mental acuity among both global leaders and his own party members.

White House National Security Communications Adviser John Kirby informed Fox News anchor Martha MacCallum on "The Story" that Biden will hold a "substantial" press conference, involving multiple reporters.

Hume acknowledged the mounting pressure Biden faces ahead of his press conference, emphasizing that it will be "pretty hard" for the president to reverse the negative perception stemming from his debate performance.

"I think the impression left by the debate, coupled with lots of other things that happened before the debate, which the public seemed aware of, that much of the media did not, that those impressions are pretty nearly indelible," Hume said. "And I think we can all hope that the president will have a good round at his news conference tomorrow."

Hume continued, "There's no doubt [this] NATO event is an important one. He seems to have handled it effectively. But I think all of that may be too late."

Biden's possible withdrawal from the race would create a leadership vacuum within the Democratic Party, with no clear frontrunner emerging as a potential successor. The party faces the challenge of identifying a candidate who can unite the party's various factions and appeal to a broad electorate.

Despite the calls for Biden to withdraw, he has maintained his intention to run for reelection. The president has dismissed concerns about his age and health, emphasizing his record of accomplishments in office.

The Democratic National Committee has expressed its support for Biden's reelection bid, highlighting his experience and dedication to serving the American people.

As the 2024 presidential election approaches, the debate over Biden's fitness for office will continue, with both his supporters and detractors closely scrutinizing his actions and statements.
