Former President Trump has successfully appealed to Gen Z male voters, leaving Democrats with an "unrecoverable" disadvantage in this demographic. Critics argue that Democrats have failed to field "cool guy" candidates and lack the cultural appeal to resonate with young men.

Puck News journalist Peter Hamby has warned Democrats that their advantage with young male voters has "completely gone" due to former President Trump's successful appeal to Gen Z with his "macho brand."

On a CNN segment hosted by Dana Bash, Hamby highlighted the growing gender gap in voting preferences, with men supporting Trump and women supporting Vice President Kamala Harris. He pointed to a recent ABC News/Washington Post poll showing Harris winning young women by a significant margin but only narrowly edging out Trump among young men.

Hamby attributed this shift to several factors, including cultural influences, Trump's macho image, and economic concerns. He also noted the decline in college enrollment and labor force participation among young men, factors that may contribute to their feelings of alienation and susceptibility to Trump's message.

"And then on top of that, you have the anti-wokeism, and the pronoun stuff, and the things that just appeal to young men- and then Donald Trump, he plays golf with Bryson DeChambeau, he goes on Theo Von, he talks about ZYNs," Hamby added, suggesting that Trump's engagement with popular culture resonates with Gen Z.

Democrats, Hamby argued, have failed to offer comparable candidates who can appeal to young men. He questioned whether they could match Trump's media presence on platforms like the Nelk Boys, Theo Von, and Joe Rogan, where he can effectively connect with their target audience.

"And, you know, Democrats, I‘m sorry, like, they haven‘t had a cool guy candidate in a while," he said, adding that while certain candidates like Minnesota Governor Tim Walz have some appeal among men, it is unlikely to significantly alter the broader trend.

Washington Post reporter Maeve Reston confirmed Hamby's observations, noting the lack of young men at Harris rallies. She attributed this to the perception that Harris's campaign focuses less on issues that resonate with male voters, such as crime and economic concerns.

Hamby also pointed out that white men are not a homogeneous group, and their voting preferences vary depending on their socioeconomic and geographic profiles. He cited Wisconsin as an example where white men tend to vote more liberally, while in Pennsylvania, concerns about crime may be driving them towards Trump.

Despite Democrats' efforts to appeal to young men, such as the "White Dudes for Harris" ad campaign, Hamby remains pessimistic about their chances of regaining their former advantage in this demographic.

"The Gen Z men vote is kind of unrecoverable at this point," he said. "So ABC News/Washington Post had a poll last weekend that sorta tracks with some other data I’ve seen. Harris is winning young women by like 38 points, so that gender gap is massive. She’s only winning young men by 3 points over Trump. That drift from 2020 is very real. Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama twice, they could all count on young men, even if they were losing older men. That advantage is now completely gone."
