CNN host Dana Bash explains how the Democratic National Convention is appealing to men who are less "testosterone-laden" than their Republican counterparts, with speakers like Governor Tim Walz and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff.

The Democratic National Convention has adopted a unique strategy to reach male voters in the 2020 election, focusing on appealing to those who may not fit the stereotypical "testosterone-laden" image associated with the Republican Party.

CNN host Dana Bash highlighted this approach during a discussion with her co-hosts, noting the increasing gender gap in American politics and the overwhelming support for Harris among female voters. However, she pointed out that the male vote is heavily in favor of Trump, albeit less so than in previous polls.

"The Democrats are trying a different tactic than the last time a woman was at the top of their ticket," Bash explained. She drew attention to the DNC's efforts to appeal to men who might not align with traditional masculine tropes.

According to Bash, this strategy involves showcasing male figures like Governor Tim Walz and Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, both of whom represent a more inclusive and modern definition of masculinity. Bash believes that these speakers can resonate with men who are comfortable supporting a female candidate and who do not feel the need to adhere to outdated and narrow gender roles.

"They are trying to put forward male figures who can speak to men out there who might not be the sort of testosterone-laden, y'know, gun-toting kind of guy," Bash said. "But also, in addition, understand that it's okay in 2024 to be a man comfortable in his own skin who supports a woman."

Bash's comments echoed earlier discussions about the contrasting definitions of masculinity presented at the Republican National Convention and the DNC. The RNC featured speakers like Kid Rock, Ultimate Fighting Champion Dana White, and Hulk Hogan, all of whom embody a more traditional and aggressive form of masculinity.

In contrast, the DNC's focus on diversity and inclusion extends to its messaging around masculinity, acknowledging the changing societal norms and the increasing presence of men who identify with a more progressive and egalitarian view of gender roles.

This strategy reflects the Democratic Party's broader efforts to expand its base and appeal to a wider range of voters, including those who may have previously felt alienated or unrepresented by the party's message. By embracing a more inclusive definition of masculinity, the DNC hopes to attract male voters who are seeking a more compassionate and forward-looking political perspective.
