UFC star Derrick Lewis shocked the crowd in St. Louis after his victory over Rodrigo Nascimento, stripping off his shorts, mooning the crowd, and throwing his protective cup at the media.
Derrick Lewis's victory over Rodrigo Nascimento at UFC Fight Night in St. Louis was marred by his bizarre post-fight antics, which included stripping off his shorts, mooning the crowd, and throwing his protective cup at the media.
After knocking out Nascimento in the third round, Lewis ripped off his shorts and waved them at his fallen opponent. He then turned to the crowd and mooned them, eliciting a mixture of shock and amusement.
But Lewis's antics didn't end there. As he made his way out of the octagon, he hurled his protective cup at the media sitting near the cage.
In a post-fight interview, Lewis explained his actions, saying that he was tired of the negative comments from the media.
"You know, because y'all boys always talking s---," Lewis said, via MMA Fighting. "Every now and then I've got to throw y'all under the bus like y'all do me. 'Oh, Derrick don't got it anymore! Blah blah blah!' Mmhmm."
Lewis admitted that he had planned to wait until the fifth round to go on the attack against Nascimento, but he took advantage of an opportunity that presented itself.
"I was really waiting for the fifth round then explode on him, but the opportunity was there," Lewis said. "He didn't let me catch my breath, that's why I had to finish him. I was trying to catch my breath, then wait it out."
Lewis's victory is likely to move him up in the heavyweight rankings, where he is currently 12th. Jon Jones is the current UFC heavyweight champion, while Tom Aspinall is the interim champion. Ciryl Gane is second in the rankings.
Despite his impressive victory, Lewis's post-fight behavior has drawn criticism from some fans and pundits. UFC President Dana White called Lewis's actions "disgusting" and said that he would be fined.
"I don't know what the hell he was thinking," White said. "That was one of the most disgusting things I've ever seen. He's going to be fined and we're going to talk to him about it."
Lewis has a history of controversial behavior. In 2019, he was fined and suspended for using a racial slur in a social media post.
Despite the criticism, Lewis remains a popular figure in the UFC. His aggressive fighting style and outspoken personality have made him a fan favorite.
It remains to be seen whether Lewis's latest antics will have any lasting impact on his career. But one thing is for sure: he has once again made headlines for all the wrong reasons.
