Quarterback Desmond Ridder has been waived by the Arizona Cardinals as part of the final roster cuts ahead of the regular season.
Arizona Cardinals quarterback Desmond Ridder has been waived by the team on Tuesday as they trimmed their roster down to 53 players ahead of the regular season. Ridder, who was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2022, spent the majority of the preseason on the Cardinals' practice squad.
The Cardinals' decision to waive Ridder comes as no surprise, given the team's depth at the quarterback position. Kyler Murray is firmly entrenched as the team's starting quarterback, while Colt McCoy and Trace McSorley provide experienced backup options.

Despite not making the Cardinals' final roster, Ridder's performance during the preseason was solid. He completed 63.6% of his passes for 284 yards, one touchdown, and no interceptions in three preseason games. He also rushed for 32 yards on seven carries.
Ridder's release from the Cardinals opens up the possibility of him catching on with another team. Several teams are in need of quarterback depth, and Ridder's athleticism and arm strength could make him an attractive option.
The 24-year-old Ridder was a standout quarterback at the University of Cincinnati, where he led the Bearcats to the College Football Playoff in 2021. He finished his college career with 10,292 passing yards, 87 touchdowns, and 26 interceptions.
Ridder's waiver by the Cardinals is a reminder of the competitive nature of the NFL and the difficulty of making a roster as an undrafted free agent. However, Ridder's talent and potential should give him a chance to continue his professional football career elsewhere.
