Devil's Purge, an upcoming augmented reality (AR) game that blends elements of Pokémon Go and Doom, has revealed a unique partnership with two indie metal bands. The soundtrack will feature music from Men Eater and ZERO MASSIVE, with more bands expected to join. The game also introduces new geolocation and time-based features, influencing gameplay and encounters with demonic entities.
Amidst the whirlwind of announcements at Gamescom 2022, one game that stood out was Devil's Purge. This AR title pits players against demonic entities in a unique blend of Pokémon Go and Doom, as described by its developers.
Devil's Purge: Pokémon Go Meets Doom with Indie Metal Soundtrack
At Gamescom, Ontop Games, the developer behind Devil's Purge, unveiled a collaboration with two indie metal bands, Men Eater and ZERO MASSIVE, to compose the game's soundtrack. This partnership brings a distinct and immersive musical experience to the game.
"We're thrilled to have Men Eater and ZERO MASSIVE join our soundtrack," said a representative from Ontop Games. "Their music perfectly captures the intense and otherworldly atmosphere of Devil's Purge."
In addition to the soundtrack, Devil's Purge also introduces new geolocation and time-based features that enhance gameplay. Players will encounter different demons depending on their location and the time of day. This adds a layer of strategy and realism to the AR experience.
"We believe that real-world influence is crucial for an AR game like Devil's Purge," said the developers. "Players will have to consider their surroundings and plan their actions accordingly to succeed in the game."
The developers at Ontop Games have been vocal about their ambition to create a non-gacha or match-3 AR game. They believe that the complexity and challenges of AR technology are worth the effort to deliver a unique and engaging experience.
"We're excited to see how Devil's Purge will resonate with players," said the developers. "We hope that it will fill the heavy metal-gaming niche that Metal: Hellsinger has carved out."
While Devil's Purge's release date is yet to be announced, it promises to be a standout title in the AR genre. Its unique gameplay mechanics, indie metal soundtrack, and real-world influences make it a game to watch out for.
