Fox News contributor Joe Concha raised questions about the Democratic National Convention's (DNC) portrayal of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, highlighting the media's praise for his "21st century masculinity" while downplaying his actual role as an assistant football coach.

Fox News contributor Joe Concha expressed skepticism over the Democratic National Convention's (DNC) portrayal of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as a football coach who turned a losing team into state champions, questioning the media's emphasis on his "21st century masculinity."

During the DNC, Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., introduced Walz as a coach who "turned a team that was 0-27 into state champions," a claim that was echoed by former students who praised his leadership and coaching skills.

However, social media users and conservative critics pointed out that Walz only served as an assistant coach at Mankato (Minnesota) West High School from 1996 to 2006, and that the head coach, Rick Sutton, played a significant role in the team's success.

"He was the Assistant Coach not the Coach," tweeted Richard Grenell, former U.S. ambassador to Germany. "Still really, really confused about why they keep pushing the ‘Coach Walz’ thing from a million years ago when Tim Walz was a volunteer assistant coach."

Concha, appearing on "Fox & Friends First," echoed these concerns, arguing that the media's focus on Walz's supposed coaching prowess was a strange one.

"It's very, very bizarre that the DNC would try to sell this idea that Coach Walz is the new 21st century masculinity," Concha said. "They're painting him as this very macho type when he was not the head coach. He was an assistant coach for seven years, and never got to the pinnacle, never won a state championship."

Concha suggested that the DNC's portrayal of Walz was an attempt to appeal to Rust Belt voters who value traditional masculinity.

"I think it's trying to send out that Rust Belt appeal, that working-class appeal, to say that, 'Here's your guy, he's a coach, he can connect with you, you guys are going to get along really well together,'" Concha said.

However, Concha pointed out that Walz's record as governor may not align with this portrayal, citing his support for gun control and his endorsement of left-wing policies.

"He's very much a traditional liberal Democrat on all the issues that would matter to those Rust Belt voters," Concha said. "So, I don't know if that's the best way to sell Tim Walz."

Critics have also questioned the relevance of focusing on Walz's assistant coaching experience, arguing that his actual performance as governor is more important.

"Why not focus on his Governorship…?…no…they just want to focus on Coach Walz…it's strange," one person wrote on social media.

Walz, who is running as Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden's vice president, has served as governor of Minnesota since 2019. He is a former teacher and Army National Guard veteran.
