Dolly Parton, the iconic country music legend, has expressed her enthusiasm for the upcoming remake of the hit 1980 film '9 to 5' and has revealed that she would love to make a cameo appearance alongside her original co-stars, Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda.

In an interview with E! News, Parton disclosed her eagerness to be involved in the project, stating, "I am and I'm hoping they use my song. And I'm hoping they might find a way to have me and Lily and Jane to come back in."

The news of the '9 to 5' remake broke in April, with Jennifer Aniston announced as the producer through her production company, Echo Films. Oscar-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody is on board to write the script, fueling anticipation for a fresh take on the classic comedy.

Parton and Aniston have previously worked together on the 2018 Netflix film 'Dumplin'', where Parton worked on the soundtrack while Aniston executive produced and starred in the lead role. The collaboration sparked a connection between the two, and Parton has expressed her support for Aniston's involvement in the '9 to 5' remake.

When asked about her thoughts on who could potentially take over her role in the remake, Parton remained open-minded. "I don’t know. Hadn’t thought of that. There’s a lot of great young people out there," she remarked.

However, her goddaughter, Miley Cyrus, was suggested as a possibility, to which Parton responded, "Wouldn’t she be great? Well, she knows me, she knows every mannerism I have."

Despite Parton's enthusiasm for the remake, her co-star Lily Tomlin has expressed reservations about the project. In an interview with People, Tomlin discussed the rumors of a sequel that had been in development, but admitted that she is unsure how the story would translate to today's working environment.

"We had one official crack at the script," she explained. "The draft just didn't work for us. We couldn't really see the work world today [in the pages]. People work from home. They take gig work. They don't even know their boss. They're at home."

Parton had previously stated in an interview with Entertainment Tonight in 2019 that the trio had "dropped that whole idea" of a sequel, due to difficulties in finding a script that was different enough from the original.

Despite these challenges, Parton remains optimistic about the remake and the potential for a cameo appearance alongside Tomlin and Fonda. The original '9 to 5' film has inspired a short-lived sitcom in the early 80s, a Broadway musical, and a 2019 documentary titled '9to5: The Story of A Movement', showcasing the film's enduring legacy.

As the remake progresses, it remains to be seen how the filmmakers will address Tomlin's concerns and adapt the story to reflect the modern workplace. However, with Parton's enthusiasm and the involvement of talented creatives like Aniston and Cody, the '9 to 5' remake holds the potential to be a success that pays homage to the original while resonating with contemporary audiences.
