Luka Doncic's clutch 3-pointer with three seconds remaining gave the Dallas Mavericks a thrilling 109-108 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 2 of the Western Conference finals, boosting their series lead to 2-0.
Luka Doncic once again showcased his brilliance on Friday night, hitting a go-ahead 3-pointer with just three seconds remaining, to lead the Dallas Mavericks to a 109-108 victory over the Minnesota Timberwolves. This triumph marks the Mavericks' second consecutive win in the Western Conference finals, giving them a commanding 2-0 series lead.
Doncic, who has been battling through knee and ankle soreness, delivered a magnificent performance, recording his fifth triple-double of the playoffs with 32 points, 13 assists, and 10 rebounds. The Slovenian superstar's impact was evident throughout the game, his precise passing and playmaking abilities leaving the Timberwolves' defense in disarray on numerous possessions.
After trailing by as many as 18 points in the second quarter and facing a 16-point deficit midway through the third, the Mavericks rallied back with remarkable resilience. Doncic orchestrated the comeback, orchestrating the offense with his signature flair and feeding Daniel Gafford (16 points) and Derick Lively II (14 points) with pinpoint lobs.
Naz Reid put up a valiant performance for the Timberwolves, shooting 7-for-9 from 3-point range for 23 points. However, his last-ditch effort at the buzzer rimmed out, giving the Mavericks the opportunity to close out the game.
In the thrilling final moments, Kyrie Irving sank a crucial 3-pointer with 1:05 left, bringing the Mavericks within two points. The Timberwolves then committed a series of turnovers, giving the Mavericks the chance to win the game.
Doncic took the inbounds pass and executed a screen by Dereck Lively II, forcing a switch by the Timberwolves. The Mavericks' plan worked flawlessly, with Defensive Player of the Year Rudy Gobert staying out on top of the key, leaving Doncic with a clear path to the basket.
Doncic seized the opportunity, sinking the game-winning shot with confidence. After the swish, he flexed his arms and roared in celebration, as his teammates erupted in joy.
Mike Conley contributed 18 points for the Timberwolves, while Gobert added 16 points and 10 rebounds. However, the Timberwolves' star duo of Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns struggled once again, failing to provide the offensive spark needed to overcome the Mavericks' relentless efforts.
Edwards, who scored 21 points but shot 11-for-33 in the series, recklessly threw the ball out of bounds off a drive with 13 seconds left, giving the Mavericks the possession they needed to secure the victory.
With Game 3 set to take place in Dallas on Sunday, the Timberwolves find themselves in a precarious position, facing a daunting deficit against a Mavericks team that is firing on all cylinders. Doncic's heroics have propelled the Mavericks to the brink of taking control of the series, and the Timberwolves will need to find a way to respond quickly if they want to avoid falling into a deeper hole.
