Draymond Green Warns Knicks of "Years of Misery" After Playoff Success

Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green believes the New York Knicks' recent playoff success is a mirage, comparing them to teams like the Atlanta Hawks and Portland Trail Blazers who experienced short-lived prosperity followed by prolonged struggles.
Draymond Green, the outspoken host of "The Draymond Green Show," has weighed in on the New York Knicks' playoff run, expressing concerns that the team's success may be fleeting and lead to future disappointment.
Green argues that the Knicks' wins have come against relatively weak competition, and that they may not be as formidable as they appear. "In the Eastern Conference, you can get to the conference finals, a la the Atlanta Hawks, by playing like very 'mid' teams, so that's what you all are doing right now," Green said.
He warned Knicks fans that they could be setting themselves up for heartbreak similar to what befell the Hawks in 2021 and the Trail Blazers in 2019. Both teams reached the conference finals but were quickly eliminated and have struggled to replicate their success since.
"And I think what this is setting y'all up for is what happened to the Atlanta Hawks three years ago when they made the conference finals, and they never got back," Green said.
Green also pointed out that the Knicks' recent moves, such as signing Jalen Brunson and Josh Hart, may have been imprudent and could backfire in the long run. He believes the team overestimated its potential and may have overpaid its players.
"Then Portland ran off and paid all of those guys because they thought they had a team that had a chance and it was a fluke and that is what the Knicks are setting y'all up for," Green said. "It'll probably be another 15 years of misery, and we'll all sit around at laugh at Knicks fans with their delusion, because that's just what happens."
Green's comments have drawn mixed reactions. Some Knicks fans have dismissed them as sour grapes from a rival player, while others have taken them to heart and questioned the team's long-term prospects.
Only time will tell whether the Knicks can sustain their playoff success and avoid the pitfalls that Green has predicted. However, his warnings should serve as a reminder that NBA success can be fleeting, and that teams should exercise caution when making decisions based on short-term results.
