Former NFL quarterback Drew Brees is eager to make a return to broadcasting after a brief stint at NBC.
Drew Brees, the legendary former New Orleans Saints quarterback, has revealed his aspirations to once again take on the role of an NFL analyst. After retiring at the end of the 2020 season, Brees spent a brief period at NBC before leaving in May 2022 to focus on spending more time with his family. However, it appears that the broadcasting bug has bitten Brees once again.
Speaking at a press conference announcing his induction into the Saints Hall of Fame, Brees confidently expressed his belief that he could be the best in the business of NFL broadcasting. "I would love to broadcast NFL games at some point again," he declared. "I think I could be the best at it."
Brees suggested a preference for NFL-centric broadcasts rather than college football, specifically mentioning "Thursday Night Football," "Monday Night Football," or "Sunday Night Football." He took to X, formerly Twitter, emphasizing his readiness to join any of these major NFL broadcasting platforms.
"Yep, I said it," Brees wrote. "SNF, MNF, or Thursday Night Football. Come get me when you’re ready!"
The Super Bowl champion acknowledged the challenges he faced during his first year of retirement, particularly the extensive travel schedule involved in television work. However, he asserted that these concerns no longer hold him back.
"Time has changed," Brees stated. "Family’s good. I got everything kind of in a good spot. So it takes a lot off the plate that I had a year ago."
Brees emphasized his belief that broadcasting would allow him to make a significant contribution to the game of football. "I think it will bring the most value," he said.
Longtime MLB and NFL play-by-play announcer Joe Buck expressed support for Brees' return to broadcasting. "If there’s anybody who was ever created in a computer to be a top analyst at a network, I think it’s Drew Brees," Buck said. "And I would love to see him get another chance at that."
Brees's analytical acumen and deep understanding of the game, combined with his passion for the sport, suggest that he could indeed excel in the broadcasting booth. Whether he will be given another opportunity to showcase his talents on a major platform remains to be seen, but his confidence and determination are undeniable.
