Elly De La Cruz's Three-Run Home Run on Debut Anniversary Explodes Cup-Wielding Fan's Beer

Reds shortstop Elly De La Cruz celebrated his one-year anniversary in the Majors with a three-run homer that reached a top speed of 114.7 mph, causing a fan's beer cup to explode.
One year ago, Elly De La Cruz made his Major League Baseball debut, and on Thursday, he marked the occasion with a memorable three-run home run against the Chicago Cubs. The electrifying shortstop's heroics in the third inning propelled the Reds to their fifth consecutive victory.
De La Cruz's thunderous blast over the right-field wall was a sight to behold, exploding off his bat with a top speed of 114.7 mph. While many fans bring gloves to the ballpark in hopes of snagging a foul ball or home run, one Reds fan in the right-field stands had a different idea - a beer cup.
Unfortunately for the fan, his plastic vessel was no match for the high-velocity ball, exploding upon impact. "That cup died a hero," joked one of the game's broadcasters.
Adding to the humor of the moment, the cup was filled at the time, leaving nearby fans drenched in beer. While the fan's attempt to catch the ball with a beer cup serves as a cautionary tale, it's not the first time a Reds fan has pulled off a similar feat with a beverage in hand.
Last season, Colorado Rockies infielder Ryan McMahon fouled off a ball that landed in a fan's beer cup at Great American Ballpark. The fan, who had just missed catching the ball with his bare hands, watched in amazement as the ball splashed into his beer, the foam still bubbling as he took a sip.
Despite marking the anniversary of his debut, De La Cruz remained modest after the game, saying he didn't have any extravagant plans beyond going to sleep. "I'm going to sleep," he said simply.
The Reds, who are enjoying a four-game winning streak, will continue their series against the Cubs through the weekend. De La Cruz's performance on Thursday is a testament to his talent and the potential he brings to the Reds' lineup.
As the Reds and Cubs continue their battle, fans will undoubtedly be on the lookout for more memorable moments, whether it's another high-speed home run by De La Cruz or another daring attempt to catch a ball with a beer cup.
