House Majority Whip Tom Emmer accuses the mainstream media of not calling out liberal politicians like Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz and Vice President Kamala Harris for their policies.

House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, a Republican from Minnesota, has accused the mainstream media of giving a "pass" to liberal politicians like Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and Vice President Kamala Harris. Emmer made the claim during an appearance on "CNN News Central," where he described Walz as a "left-wing radical" who is "incredibly pulling the ticket to the far left."

Emmer claimed that Walz's policies have led to skyrocketing taxes, record-high violent crime, and a decline in the well-being of Minnesota families. He also criticized Walz's personality, saying that he comes across as an "affable Midwesterner" but is actually a "radical" underneath.

CNN host Sara Sidner questioned why Minnesotans re-elected Walz if he was the candidate that Emmer described. Emmer responded by suggesting that the media gives liberal politicians a pass, which allows them to avoid criticism for their policies.

Emmer's comments come as Walz is being considered as a potential running mate for President Joe Biden in the 2024 election. Walz's announcement was met with cheers from many progressives, but it has also drawn concern from some notable anti-Trump media figures, who worry that he would alienate centrist voters.

Former Ohio governor and MSNBC contributor John Kasich recently said that the choice of Walz pushed the Democratic ticket further to the left. He said, "I think Shapiro would have helped them. I was surprised they picked this gentleman. I think by picking Walz, they have sort of labeled themselves, ideologically, as progressive. I don't know if that sells. We have to see."

MSNBC's Charlie Sykes said that the party was trying to win back their progressive base at the possible expense of Pennsylvania; no candidate has won the White House without winning the state since George W. Bush in 2004.

Alyssa Farah Griffin, a co-host of "The View" and CNN political commentator, said that Harris' choice of Walz was an "extraordinary missed opportunity." She noted that while Walz has some pros, he is "not viewed as a moderating force" on the Democratic ticket.

It remains to be seen whether Emmer's accusation that the media gives liberals a pass will have any impact on Walz's chances of becoming Biden's running mate. However, Emmer's comments highlight the growing divide between Republicans and Democrats on the role of the media in politics.
