A Texas inmate serving a 20-year sentence for burglary and robbery was captured near the prison he escaped from after a thorough search involving local and state authorities.

In a daring escape that prompted a widespread search, Kidanny Robles, a 33-year-old inmate at the Clemens Unit trusty camp in Angleton, Texas, managed to flee the facility on Sunday night, leaving security guards scrambling to locate him.

During a routine count at midnight, guards discovered that Robles was unaccounted for. A subsequent investigation revealed that he had walked away from the camp, a housing location outside the main prison designed for inmates requiring a lower level of supervision.

Local and state law enforcement officials, along with the Office for the Inspector General, immediately launched a search for Robles. Nearly 10 hours later, authorities located him three miles from the prison facility.

Law enforcement officers ordered Robles to stop, but he initially refused. A captain from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice then shot Robles in the arm.

In the aftermath of the escape, the prison canceled all visitations on Sunday as staff members assisted in the search for Robles.

With his capture, Robles now faces felony escape charges for his daring escape from prison.

Robles' escape highlights the challenges that correctional facilities face in maintaining security and preventing inmates from escaping. In this case, the inmate was able to walk away from the facility undetected, prompting a large-scale search effort.

The incident also raises concerns about the supervision of inmates who require a lower level of monitoring and the potential risks associated with housing them outside the main prison facility.

Authorities have not yet released further details about the investigation into Robles' escape, including how he managed to leave the facility without being detected.

The Texas Department of Criminal Justice is expected to conduct a thorough review of the incident to identify any security vulnerabilities and implement measures to prevent similar escapes in the future.
