A recent survey reveals a surge of residents leaving blue states like California, Washington, and Oregon for red states like Idaho. The primary reason behind this migration is the high cost of living, particularly in housing and rentals.

Idaho's population is experiencing a significant boost as an influx of residents from neighboring states, particularly California, Washington, and Oregon, seek refuge from the escalating cost of living and other challenges in their home states.

According to a recent survey conducted by ConsumerAffairs, California ranks lowest in terms of net loss of migration, with over 17,824 individuals expressing a desire to leave while only 7,000 are planning to move in. This stark imbalance results in a net migration change of -10,453.

The high cost of living, particularly the exorbitant prices of homes and rentals, is a major factor driving this mass exodus from California. Experts believe that addressing these rising costs would increase California's appeal to potential movers.

Michael Basch, a former resident of New York and California who now resides in Oklahoma, sheds light on the reasons behind his relocation: "If you want to maximize kombucha consumption per hour, go to LA. But if you prioritize starting a family, having a high quality of life, being part of a close-knit community, or making a meaningful difference, I believe Oklahoma excels in those areas compared to those markets."

The survey also indicates a negative net migration for New York, with almost 6,000 individuals planning to leave and only 3,800 seeking to move in, resulting in a net migration change of -2,190. Notably, all 10 states with the lowest net migration are blue states, while the top 10 are either red or purple.

North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Tennessee, and Texas emerged as the most desirable destinations for potential movers, ranking first to fifth in net desirability. Business experts attribute this migration trend to high taxes, oppressive policies, homelessness, and crime in blue states.

Fox News Digital previously reported on U.S. Census Bureau data indicating an influx of residents into red states, with Texas experiencing the largest population growth in 2023. Conversely, blue states experienced a population decline between 2022 and 2023, including California, Hawaii, Illinois, New York, Oregon, and Pennsylvania.

Idaho's population growth is expected to continue as individuals seek affordable housing, lower taxes, and a higher quality of life in the state. The influx of new residents is also anticipated to bring with it a conservative political influence, further shifting the political landscape of Idaho.
