In a tragic turn of events, a Dallas Police officer was killed and two others injured in a shootout with a suspect. The suspect was also killed in the exchange of gunfire, leaving the department and the city in mourning and disbelief.

The Dallas Police Department is reeling after one of its officers was killed in the line of duty and two others were injured in a shooting Thursday night. The incident began around 10 p.m. when officers responded to a report of an officer in distress on East Ledbetter Drive.

Upon arrival, officers found a colleague shot inside a marked squad car. As they engaged with the suspect, two additional officers were struck by gunfire. The suspect fled the scene, leading to a high-speed chase that ended in Lewisville on Stemmons Freeway.

Dallas Police officials confirmed that the suspect exited the vehicle carrying a long gun and was fatally shot by responding officers. According to department spokesperson Kristin Lowman, the incident has left the department heartbroken.

"Our department is hurting," Lowman said in a news conference Friday morning. "We have officers who are injured who are in the hospital, and we lost one of our own."
