John Beard and son Jayden Beard tell 'Fox & Friends First' about the massive flag and the attention they've received.
A father-son duo in Louisiana has taken their patriotism to new heights this Independence Day by covering their home in a 50-foot American flag. John Beard and his son, Jayden, say the massive display, which weighs a hefty 60 pounds, is a tribute to all that the United States has done for their family.
"We don't have a huge flag pole [to] put it on, so we decided, in order to show our patriotism, this is how we were going to do it. We put it on the house," John told "Fox & Friends First" Wednesday.

The task of draping the massive flag on the house was not an easy one. John said he had to take special care not to damage it in the process.
"Ladder, rope and tackle and getting it up there and laying it across and then unfolding it and putting it up there and tacking it down, trying to be as respectful as possible to the flag," he told a local outlet about the effort.

Jayden, John's son, said his friends in the neighborhood also came over to help.
"They were all for it," he noted.

"I very much [love my country], and I agree with my father's choice, what he's doing of covering the house," he added. "The flag really represents my freedom, everyone's freedom of speech of being able to hang this flag without any repercussions."
Feedback among neighbors has been generally positive, but there has been some "pushback" online, according to John.

"We just kind of think if we're upsetting the liberals, then you must be doing something right," he quipped.
The Beard family's display is not the first time someone has used a large American flag to show their patriotism. In 2018, a man in Ohio draped his entire house in a 100-foot American flag.
The massive displays have sparked some controversy, with some critics arguing that they are disrespectful to the flag. However, John and Jayden Beard say that they are proud of their display and that they believe it is a fitting tribute to the United States.
"It's not a political statement. It's a statement of pride," John said. "We're proud to be Americans, and we're proud to display the American flag."
