Fulton County DA Fani Willis has been crisscrossing the country for fundraisers despite facing an appeal seeking her disqualification from the case against former President Trump. Her political activities have drawn criticism from opponents.
Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has been a whirlwind of activity on the fundraising circuit, crisscrossing the country to attend events with Democratic allies in Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, and beyond. Amidst her campaign for re-election, Willis's political maneuvers have raised eyebrows among opponents.
Willis traveled to Washington, D.C., earlier this month for a "2024 Re-Election Fundraising Reception" on September 13. The invitation specified contributions up to $3,300. She also headlined a panel with Democrat Rep. Jasmine Crockett of Texas, discussing strategies to "clapback against MAGA."

Last week, Willis continued her fundraising spree with another "Re-Election Fundraising Reception" in Los Angeles on September 17. Contributions ranged from $101 for "Team Fani" donors to $1,000 for "Supporter" donors, with a maximum of $3,300 requested.
Willis's fundraising endeavors come as she faces a subpoena from Georgia's State Senate Special Committee on Investigations. The committee is investigating allegations that Willis profited from the prosecution of former President Donald Trump and colluded with Democratic officials to bring charges against him.

Despite a Fulton County judge denying Willis's motion to block the subpoena, she has continued her fundraising efforts. This has drawn criticism from opponents like former Senator Kelly Loeffler, who chairs Greater Georgia, an organization working to oust Willis.
Loeffler accused Willis of "abandoning the families of Fulton County" and prioritizing her financial and political interests. She launched a $100,000 ad campaign against Willis, highlighting her alleged failures.

Meanwhile, Willis's Georgia 2020 election interference case against Trump has faced setbacks. Fulton County Judge Scott McAfee dismissed two criminal counts, ruling that prosecutors lacked authority to bring charges related to filing false federal court documents.
Trump also pleaded not guilty to all counts, and the Georgia Court of Appeals paused the proceedings until it hears an argument to disqualify Willis in October. However, McAfee upheld the racketeering charge against all defendants.

The 2024 presidential election looms large over these legal proceedings, with the Georgia Court of Appeals set to hear Trump's disqualification argument on December 5, just a month after the vote. Willis's fundraising activities and the ongoing legal challenges continue to fuel speculation about her political ambitions and the fate of the high-profile case.
