Although the gunman missed Trump, three other individuals were hit, including Corey Comperatore, a former fire chief who later succumbed to his injuries. David Dutch and James Copenhaver were also injured in the shooting. Secret Service agents returned fire, killing Crooks on the spot.

The investigation into the assassination attempt is still ongoing, with the FBI working to determine Crooks' motive and whether he had any accomplices. Technical specialists have gained access to his phone, and his electronic devices are being meticulously analyzed. Authorities have conducted nearly 100 interviews in search of any potential leads.
