Darrell "Housh" Doucette, quarterback of the U.S. national flag football team, has ignited a debate by claiming to be better than three-time Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes in the non-contact version of the sport. Doucette's bold assertion stems from his belief in his exceptional football IQ.
Darrell "Housh" Doucette, the quarterback leading Team USA to victory at the 2021 IFAF Men's Flag Football World Championship, has stirred up the sports world by declaring himself superior to Patrick Mahomes, the NFL's reigning MVP and three-time Super Bowl winner.

In an interview with TMZ Sports, Doucette confidently asserted, "At the end of the day, I feel like I'm better than Patrick Mahomes because of my IQ of the game. I know he's right now the best in the league, I know he's more accurate, I know he has all these intangibles – but when it comes to flag football, I feel like I know more than him."
Doucette's bold claim has sparked a heated debate within the football community, with many questioning the validity of his comparison. Flag football, a non-contact variant of the traditional sport, places greater emphasis on speed, agility, and strategy. Mahomes, on the other hand, has proven himself to be an exceptional talent in the NFL, renowned for his incredible arm strength, accuracy, and ability to orchestrate complex offensive plays.

Doucette acknowledges the physical differences between flag football and tackle football but insists that the lack of physicality in flag football allows him to showcase his superior intellect. "I don't think they have the time to actually learn this game and be as successful as we have over this period of time," he said, referring to NFL players who may express interest in transitioning to flag football.
The quarterback's comments come as flag football prepares to make its Olympic debut at the 2028 Games in Los Angeles. Many NFL stars have already expressed their desire to represent their countries in the new Olympic event. However, Doucette believes that NFL players should go through the same tryout process as everyone else.

"I love the fact that they want to play and that they want to come out and compete," Doucette stated. "But at the end of the day, we want the same process that we've been having to play – we have to try out, and so do they. I don't want it to be they're entitled because of their names to be able to just automatically be on the team and that's what is sounds like from the flag football world."
Mahomes has responded to Doucette's comments with a meme of rapper 50 Cent, seemingly dismissing his claims. However, the debate is likely to continue as flag football gains popularity and recognition in the lead-up to the 2028 Olympics.

The NFL and NFLPA are currently in discussions about the possibility of players under contract participating in the Olympic Games. NFL Executive Jeff Miller has stated that the league supports the idea of players representing their countries but that no final decision has been made.
As the Olympic flag football competition approaches, it remains to be seen whether Doucette's bold claim will hold true. Only time and competition will determine whether his flag football IQ can truly surpass the extraordinary talents of Patrick Mahomes and the elite NFL players who may join the fray.
