Law enforcement officials have recovered a white van suspected of being used by Thomas Matthew Crooks, the man accused of nearly assassinating former President Donald Trump. A comprehensive search of the van revealed the presence of explosives, including an improvised explosive device (IED), according to confirmed sources.
The sources, who declined to provide specific details about the number or type of explosives discovered, emphasized that multiple devices were recovered. Furthermore, a search of Crooks' residence yielded bomb-making materials, further implicating him in the assassination attempt.

A widely circulated video captures law enforcement meticulously combing through the van for over four minutes. Although the exact timing of the footage is not known, it is believed to have been recorded after Crooks grazed Trump's ear and fatally shot a former fire chief during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13, 2024.
Five days following the failed assassination attempt, numerous questions remain unanswered. The Secret Service and local law enforcement agencies have engaged in a public feud, while conspiracy theories continue to circulate on social media.

In response to the incident, the House Oversight Committee has subpoenaed Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle, who has agreed to appear before a hearing scheduled for July 22. The committee's statement highlights the demand for accountability and the need for answers from Director Cheatle regarding the attempted assassination and the apparent security lapses that allowed Crooks to carry out the attack.
The shooting resulted in the death of Corey Comperatore, a former fire chief who heroically shielded his family from gunfire. David Dutch, 57, and James Copenhaver, 74, sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment.

Secret Service snipers successfully neutralized Crooks 26 seconds after he initiated the attack. He fired from the rooftop of a building overlooking the rally, approximately 150 yards from Trump's podium.
Crooks, who would have turned 21 in September, had no prior criminal record or traffic citations. He was registered as a Republican but had only participated in one election due to his age.

The ongoing investigation into the attempted assassination is a collaborative effort involving multiple law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, Secret Service, and local police. Investigators are currently examining Crooks' social media activity, financial records, and any potential connections with extremist groups or individuals.
Amid the ongoing probe, authorities are urging the public to report any suspicious activity or information that could assist in the investigation. The discovery of the explosive-laden van has raised concerns about potential threats to public safety and the need for increased vigilance in the wake of such incidents.
