Former Trump administration national security adviser Robert O'Brien believes the Biden administration's lack of leadership has allowed the "axis of evil" to flourish, comprising Russia, China, North Korea, and Iran. O'Brien proposes a strategy to divide this alliance by leveraging the US's energy production and asserting its military dominance.
Former Trump administration national security adviser Robert O'Brien presented a potential game plan on CBS's "Face the Nation" to divide the so-called "axis of evil" that has been growing in strength due to the Biden administration's "lack of American leadership." O'Brien believes that increasing domestic energy production, sanctioning the Russian Federation Central Bank, and reducing Russian oil sales are crucial steps in dismantling this alliance.
O'Brien emphasizes that the "key is to deter war, not to fight and win a war." His strategy focuses on rebuilding the US military and Navy, moving Marines to the Asia-Pacific region, and leveraging the US's dominant force posture to deter China from invading Taiwan. O'Brien stresses that "peace through strength" is the most effective deterrent against aggression.
Former National Security Adviser O'Brien's Plan to Divide the 'Axis of Evil'
O'Brien identifies Russia's reliance on energy sales to sustain its economy and proposes increasing US energy production to diminish Russian influence. He believes that canceling the Keystone XL pipeline and allowing the opening of the Nord Stream Two pipeline has strengthened Putin's position. By increasing domestic energy production, the US can reduce its reliance on Russian energy and weaken Putin's financial leverage.
Additionally, O'Brien calls for sanctions on the Russian Federation Central Bank and a reduction in Russian oil sales to further pressure the Russian economy. He believes that striking at the heart of Russia's financial system will significantly weaken its ability to support its allies, such as North Korea.
Former National Security Adviser O'Brien's Plan to Divide the 'Axis of Evil'
O'Brien stresses the need to "put maximum pressure back on the Iranians" to prevent Iran from gaining too much power within the axis. He believes that rebuilding US military presence in the Asia-Pacific region will send a strong message to China, deterring it from any potential invasion of Taiwan. Moving Marines to Guam, Hawaii, the Philippines, and Australia would create a formidable force posture capable of countering Chinese aggression.
O'Brien emphasizes that rebuilding the US military and Navy is essential for asserting "peace through strength." He argues that a strong military presence not only deters potential adversaries but also allows the US to respond swiftly and effectively to any threats. By investing in its military capabilities, the US can project power and maintain its global dominance.
Former National Security Adviser O'Brien's Plan to Divide the 'Axis of Evil'
O'Brien's plan revolves around deterrence rather than seeking direct confrontation with the "axis of evil." He believes that by increasing US energy production, sanctioning Russia, and rebuilding its military, the US can create a strong deterrent that will prevent war and maintain global stability. O'Brien emphasizes the importance of "peace through strength" as the most effective way to preserve peace and prevent conflict.
