The Denver Nuggets forward has tragically lost his older brother, a former professional basketball star, in a car crash on Thursday evening.
Tragedy has struck the Denver Nuggets organization as it has been confirmed that former NBA player Drew Gordon, the older brother of Aaron Gordon, was tragically killed in a car accident in Portland, Oregon, on Thursday. He was just 33 years old.
The news was first confirmed by Gordon's agent, Calvin Andrews, to ESPN's Marc J. Spears. The Denver Nuggets released a statement expressing their devastation and sorrow over the loss:
"Drew was far too young to leave this world, but his legacy will forever live on through his three beautiful children and all of his loved ones. Our hearts are with Aaron and the Gordon family during this extremely difficult time."
The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office confirmed the "fatal crash" near South Spingwater Road just before 6 p.m., according to the Albuquerque Journal. However, police have yet to respond to Fox News Digital's inquiries.
Drew Gordon was a highly touted recruit before joining the UCLA Bruins men's basketball team in 2008. He spent two seasons with the Bruins before transferring to the University of New Mexico, where he led the Lobos to a conference title and earned MVP honors. He was named All-MWC First Team in his senior year.
Despite going undrafted in the 2012 NBA Draft, Gordon made his professional debut with the Philadelphia 76ers in 2014. He appeared in nine games that season before playing in the G League and several European leagues. He announced his retirement on social media less than a year ago.
Drew Gordon is survived by his wife and three sons. His untimely passing has left an immense void in the hearts of his family, friends, and the basketball community.
