A seventh-round pick in the 2000 NFL Draft, Pass had 526 yards rushing with three touchdowns over his 78 games in New England. He also caught 66 balls for 570 receiving yards with a touchdown.

Pass was recently a coach in the Indoor Football League for the Massachusetts Pirates, where he was suspended indefinitely after a brawl saw players jumping into the stands during a game with the Arizona Rattlers.

The Patriots released a statement saying they were aware of the incident and were gathering more information.

"We are aware of the situation involving Patrick Pass and are gathering more information at this time," the team said.

Pass's arrest is the latest in a string of incidents involving former NFL players being accused of violence.

In recent months, former NFL players Chad Johnson, Antonio Brown, and LeSean McCoy have all been arrested on domestic violence charges.

The NFL has been criticized for its handling of domestic violence cases, and the league has recently taken steps to strengthen its policies and procedures.

In 2014, the NFL adopted a new personal conduct policy that includes a six-game suspension for a first offense of domestic violence.

The league also created a new position of special counsel for domestic violence, which is responsible for investigating and prosecuting cases of domestic violence involving NFL players.

Despite these efforts, the NFL continues to face criticism for its handling of domestic violence cases. Some critics argue that the league's punishments are not harsh enough, while others argue that the league does not do enough to help victims of domestic violence.

The NFL has said that it is committed to addressing the issue of domestic violence and that it will continue to review its policies and procedures to ensure that they are effective.
