Former National Security Council official Richard Goldberg joined 'Fox & Friends' to raise concerns about the International Criminal Court (ICC), calling for its defunding and warning that the US could be its next target.
Former National Security Council official Richard Goldberg has joined the chorus of critics calling for the defunding of the International Criminal Court (ICC), arguing that it poses a threat to the United States.
Goldberg, appearing on 'Fox & Friends,' expressed concern over the ICC's recent decision to issue arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for alleged war crimes during the Jewish state's campaign against the Hamas terrorist movement in the Gaza Strip.
Goldberg highlighted a 2013 academic essay written by Karim Khan, the British chief prosecutor for the ICC, in which Khan himself raised concerns about the court's ability to provide due process to defendants. According to Goldberg, Khan's essay revealed that the ICC "is incapable of delivering justice."
Goldberg cited passages from Khan's essay that allege unfair practices by the ICC, including the use of anonymous summaries of witness evidence and the magnified public perception of guilt fueled by civil-society groups and the media.
Khan also pointed out deficiencies in the evidentiary rules at the ICC, noting that the lower standard of proof at the confirmation stage creates a bias against defendants.
The ICC's targeting of Israeli officials, Goldberg argued, is part of a broader pattern of hostility towards US allies. He warned that "the US will be next" if the ICC is not held accountable.
Goldberg pointed out that Khan was once on the verge of being held in contempt by the ICC for his representation of former Liberian President Charles Taylor, who was accused of war crimes in Sierra Leone.
Goldberg criticized the ICC for ignoring the atrocities committed by Hamas, which invaded Israel and massacred nearly 1,200 people, including more than 30 Americans.
Tal Heinrich, a spokeswoman for Israel's government, described the ICC's actions as a "vicious smear" campaign against Israeli leaders.
Fox News Digital's attempts to obtain a response from Khan and the ICC have been met with silence. Fadi El Abdallah, a spokesman for the ICC, offered no explanation for the lack of communication.
Goldberg urged the US to defund the ICC, calling it "a kangaroo court" and a threat to American interests.
The ICC's actions, if not challenged, could have serious implications for the United States, potentially subjecting American officials to arbitrary and politically motivated prosecutions.
